DOCUMENTATION / GUIDE
Your first evidence trail
Upload a source, ask a focused question, and inspect the supporting passage.
Upload a source, ask a focused question, and inspect the supporting passage. Start with a focused source set and keep the evidence visible as you work.
Choose a small source set
Begin with one document you know well. Open Library, choose the source, and ask a question with a concrete scope. A familiar document makes it easier to judge whether the answer has missed something.
Verify before you save
Open the citation and compare the answer with the surrounding text. Keep the useful passage, then write your own interpretation in Working notes. The two serve different purposes.
Return to your thinking
Save the note to create a revision. Reopen the conversation to review the saved evidence and restore an earlier note when your interpretation changes.

Walk through the workflow
- Choose your source. Open a document from the library or use a sample collection.
- Ask one focused question. Name the concept or section you want explained.
- Inspect the citation. Compare the answer with its highlighted evidence.
- Keep your reasoning. Save a highlight and add your own note.
When something looks wrong
Check that the selected document is the intended source. If an answer is unsupported, inspect the passage and preserve the question as a reproducible example. A missing highlight, a retrieval miss, and an incorrect interpretation are different issues.

How are answers connected to sources?
Citely retrieves relevant passages from your documents and associates answers with source references. Open a citation to inspect its context; a citation does not by itself guarantee that a claim is correct.
Can I try Citely without creating an account?
